In an effort to offer an intellectual retreat from the pragmatism of day to day projects, frog holds periodic frog forums, which give people in the studios an opportunity to explore a topic from an academic and theoretical perspective, without the constraints of client work and in the safety of fellow-frogs. The second frog forum was held in Austin, Texas, to discuss the question “What is the Role of Meaning and Behavior in Our Work?” After some discussion and much coffee, this group of frogs landed on several recurring design themes relating to the topic. Here is the visual reenactment of the conversations and explorations at frog forum.tx on the role of the designer in the meaning business.
In light of the economic crisis, companies have a historic opportunity to transform the way they do business and provide customers with more value-rich, sustainable, and meaningful products and services. With this special series on “The Meaning of Business,” design mind invites business leaders from various industries and disciplines to explore new, innovative models of value creation.
A New Era of Meaning - An Introduction

Meaning is....
James Graves - October 29, 2009
In order to ascribe "meaning" to a product I think first one must look at the ever changing needs desires and aesthetics of those that the product is targeted towards. How much of those needs desires and aesthetics are influenced by their immediate environment , and how much (and which specific ones) are innate to the human condition. Let's use the I-phone as an example of "meaning". People have needs for connection with others, and a need for ease. On a base level these are more or less innate to most humans. One could say the I-phone handles those pretty well, but when people are up to their eyeballs in e-mails , facebook comments voice mails news feeds and on and on... the need (or yearning) for human connection may not be met in the way the end user is really desiring. Also with such an over abundance of techno-gadgetry that we have found ourselves being burdened by, the definition of "ease" takes a bit of a turn and that I-phone isn't such a hot item anymore. How does one ascribe "meaning" to a product? Perhaps one needs to be like an actor/actress studying for a role as a certain character. Go to the right places, meet the right people, think like them, etc...

Help with Printing
bobby frank - March 18, 2010
I absolutely love this Blog Series on the Meaning of Business, and this Image sums it all up. I would love to print it out in color and tack it to my wall to remind me.
Only problem: When I click to enlarge it, yes it does enlarge, but when I click on Print my browser wants to print the entire page with text and all.
Is there anyway you can email me the file so I can print it out nice and large?
I know this is your protected work, so if you'd like to email me in PDF or other format, I will understand. I can also sign whatever document you would like saying I wont copy or disseminate it.
Sorry to worry so much about protectionism. I know it kind of contradicts the spirit of the entire series.

it seemed so simple in my head In the same way that glass cracks when heated up and dunked in water the light bulb did the same Except being under pressure and being so thin instead of cracking it EXPLODED zenith fake Bulb shards everywhere Luckily the fake lv lampshade was still on which shielded me from flying slivers of broken glass to the face or you
