Lemonade Stand - 一个简单便捷的用户研究方式

从事用户研究多年以来,被质疑的声音不绝于耳——“用户研究的真正意义在哪里?如何为产品设计带来更可靠的价值?等等”

Meeting People is Easy (LIFT 2012)

frog is excited to join the technorati at this year's Lift conference, an annual event that explores the cultural implications of digital technology. As a contribution to the event, we've created frogHub. What is it? You'll have to wait and see, but the idea is to bridge the physical and digital world to create an interactive experience for all conference participants.

Book Club: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Last week at frog we kicked off our new book club with a discussion of the Steve Jobs Biography by Walter Isaacson. The main theme of the conversation was, “I’m not Steve Jobs and you’re not Steve Jobs, so what can we learn from Steve Jobs”. We went from there and discussed Steve’s personality, his reality distortion, his uncanny ability to predict the needs of consumers, and how these aspects of his very public life have influenced the design community and frog specifically. These are some of the gems that I found in, or from, the conversation, either because they are directly applicable to my career as a designer or because they touch the part of me that is passionate about quality, genuineness and discovering passion in all areas of my life.

Playing Moneyball With Game Play

One of my favorite movies of the year is Moneyball, which has been nominated for multiple Oscars including Best Actor for Brad Pitt, who has done more with this movie to make statistics sexy than a million analytics wonks. The movie is based on the Michael Lewis book of the same name, and tells the story of how Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane employed analytics to assemble one of the most competitive teams in pro baseball even though he had a minuscule budget that was dwarfed by the spend of other teams. The sabermetric techniques used by Beane and his team went on to redefine the way players are measured and valued. His approach balanced the art of baseball with science.

Baseball is not the only game to undergo this transformation. In the last few years, the rise of social and free-to-play gaming, championed by companies like Zynga, has had a similar impact on the world of video games. Just as Beane's approach was controversial and met with resistance by Major League Baseball, so too is there much gnashing of teeth within the video games industry by those who see the encroachment of science into play as a threat to the art. Critics are quick to label free-to-play mechanics as “casino tactics.” And while some social gaming companies have undoubtedly gone too far in their use, it cannot be denied that the use of analytics is bringing a better understanding of how people play and how players stay engaged.

Discovering Local

Growing up in a small city, I came to know about my immediate world mostly through family, friends and neighbors. I learned from my parents the regular fare for an auto-rickshaw from home to school and back. A neighbor recommended a grocery store, known for selling unadulterated foods at reasonable prices, and over time we became loyal customers and family friends to the store owners. When we inquired about good tailors, our family friends mentioned they all had different favorites to suit their styles. We sought references from close friends when we needed to consult specialist doctors.

What Professional Designers Can Learn from the DIY Crowd

It used to work something like this: when you had a design problem, you called in the pros. Let's say you sought the ultimate ergonomic office chair, or a device that redefined portable audio. You called in the industry elite to create an innovative product for you. For decades, we've approached design as the province of experts. But in recent years, there has been an explosion of user-generated design. Talented people are going it alone and bringing their designs directly to market.
