The history of gardening is a fascinating subject because it is, at its core, a history of dominant design styles. Perhaps because gardens feel so permanent and unchanging we take the formal qualities of what a garden should look or feel like for granted; representing a style that has always been and always will be. But the garden is anything but that; instead, it’s a constantly changing ecosystem, evolving from season to season and from formal style to style.

Lego's aesthetic of illustrated, staged, non-verbal construction is rightly considered a classic in the infographics space. Over the last few years I've completed a number of Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) projects for various clients, most often those in the medical category, and I often find myself going back to Lego for inspiration when tackling a new problem.

I saw an interesting article in the New York Times this weekend titled "Put Ad on Web. Count Clicks. Revise." The premise of the article goes something like this: because the web provides functionality to test every variation of a banner ad for effectiveness, the next big thing is tailoring advertising in the moment, and leveraging findings from click-thru rates to construct more relevant offerings for consumers.

Last week, Amazon announced it's publishing its first book. Written by a 14-year-old girl named Cayla Kluver, "Legacy" is a fantasy/sci-fi title that had originally been self-published by its author, with the help of her mother. With this book, Amazon vaulted into the traditional publishing arena with a service called AmazonEncore.
