Wanted: the Next Apple and Sony

Sony and Apple are without question the heavyweights in the consumer electronics industry. Consumers find products like iPhone and PlayStation so compelling that they are willing to stand in line overnight to be the first to buy them. These successes are not just hit and runs, but part of a consistent stream of regularly introduced blockbusters. When it seems the industry can’t get any more competitive, Apple and Sony continue to deliver innovations that change the game.

Despite similarities in driving innovation, Apple and Sony are two corporations with vastly different backgrounds and cultures. So what’s the secret formula to their success? Just how difficult is it to achieve their superstar status, and more importantly, to sustain it?

Sony was founded in 1946. Apple was born in 1976. Times have clearly changed. What does it take to become the next heavyweight brand today?

Please join us for a frog design mind event featuring Hartmut Esslinger, founder of frog and the superstar designer that helped propel the early success of Apple and Sony through groundbreaking design. Esslinger will be joined by a panel of experts including Lorraine Justice, Head of the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Liu Ning, Head of R&D / Chief of Design with Haier.
