For more than fifty years, Salone del Mobile has drawn design enthusiasts to Milan each April—growing from festival to promote Italian furniture for the export market into one of the world’s premiere design events.
“From Tuesday to Sunday, the city comes alive with all sorts of madness,” Executive Creative Director Fabio Sergio explained ahead of this year’s festival. “It’s not just about the furniture showcase but what is happening informally in showrooms across the city as companies and designers showcase what is happening within design.”
This year, frog’s Milan studio opened its doors for two nights of intimate and insightful events.
A traditional open studio kicked off the week, welcoming the local design community into the studio’s new space for an informal showcase of work and a celebration of nearly a decade in Milan.
The studio followed up the evening by hosting Paolo Ciuccarelli of Politecnico di Milano and Experientia’s Jan-Christoph Zoels in discussion with frog’s Chief Creative Officer Mark Rolston, Vice President of Creative Tjeerd Hoek. The thought leaders each shared their perspectives on the parallel themes of "designing the future" and “the future of design.”
Both nights were buzzed with conversations and lively energy. We hope to continue this as a yearly tradition in Milan. Stay tuned for more upcoming events and even more fun next year.
